Smart alerts from older appliances

Receiving an alert when your washing machine or dishwasher has finished is a very handy and frequently requested feature. Of course, Home Assistant has some great integrations for many brands of smart appliances, including LG, Bosch and Samsung, which enable this to be done very easily.

By using a cheap energy monitoring plug, Home Assistant can detect when the power used by appliances falls below a certain level. In the case of a dishwasher, washing machine or dryer this can be used to detect when the appliance has finished its cycle. This can be used as a trigger to send an alert to your phone.
