Introducing Home Assistant
Home Assistant (HA) is a free, open-source home automation platform that serves as a central hub for controlling and automating smart home devices, emphasizing local control and privacy.
HA runs on a small, low-cost mini computer that is installed in your house and connects to your network.
Almost any computer is supported, including Raspberry Pi and NUC.
In addition, Nabu Casa (the founders of HA) manufacture Home Assistant Green (pictured).
HA’s greatest strength is the extensive range of integrations. Over 1000 different devices and services are supported, which enables control to be centralised and delivered in a single app.
With all devices in your home integrated, HA’s powerful advanced automation engine can be unleashed to make your home work for you.
Turn your lights off when you leave home and on when your return
Automatically open your garage door and/or gates
Receive and alert when your washing machine finishes
Information about your home is displayed in a single application using HA’s versatile dashboards which can be customized to suit your needs. The app can be used from mobiles, tablets and Windows/Mac computers. Home Copilot has developed our own HA dashboards that speed deployment, look amazing and provide a consistent experience across a wide range of devices.
Importantly, as HA is installed and runs locally so all data remains local.
